Hey Mama

Let's Get it Started

Where is the Love?

Technical DetailSome of the instruments that were used in the production of this album included moog synthesizers, drums, piano, guitar, wurlitzer electric piano, horns and trumpets. A lot of warping sounds tied in with singing and various other musical notes all all came together in one coalation to from the masterpiece that it was. This album used new technologies and was originally released on a CD. Technology did play a huge roll in the making of this album as much of the sounds and music going on in the backround wouldn't exist without the addition of moog synthesizers and other electric melodies. One of the main reasons for the making of this album was to help show the world that terrorism needs to end, along with all of the hate in the world, as conveyed by one of their biggest hits on the album, "Where is the Love?"

Cultural AnalysisWill i am and apl used to be part of Tribal Nation, a breakdancing crew, and then in 1992 Eazy-E's Ruthless records signed the group. Eazy-E had died in 1995 which ended any future deals with Ruthless Records. Then the group signed a third dancer Taboo, and that when they became the Black Eyed Peas. Elephunk was the first album with the addition of a new member to the peas, Fergie. The different synthesizers and voice changers that were used in the creation of the album are used to show how hip hop is becoming more machine generated than actual music. As time goes on and technology becomes more and more advanced, the actual idea of instruments making noise and not computers is slowly going away. In one of the biggest hits on the album, "Where is the Love?", the group talks strongly about the world of terrorism and how it needs peace. Right before this album was released, the 9/11 attacks on the world trade center in New York had occured and it is referenced strongly throughout this song. One of the biggest ideas that were trying to be shown throughout the album was mainly that war and hate needs to end in this world. Probably the biggest influence on the groups album also was the events of 9/11 which left a memory in everyones mind, the Black Eyed Peas just happened to make those memories into songs. Some criticisms that have been made about the album were that "Where is the Love?" was a trite single and people should be wondering "Where are the Peas?".
